Numeracy

Numeracy programmes at Armadale Primary School are designed to provide robust learning of the content described in the West Australian Mathematics Curriculum for the content strands of Number & Algebra, Measurement & Geometry and Statistics & Probability.  A combination of explicit teaching and a hands-on investigative approach contribute to engaging students with high interest learning experiences that are tailored to suit student need.

A major focus is placed on developing mathematical fluency and problem solving skills from Kindergarten to Year 6.  All students have use of a maths journal in which they have opportunity to solve problems and reason about their mathematical ideas. They are encouraged to use correct mathematical vocabulary and symbolic representation of situations from Kindergarten through to the upper primary year levels with increasingly sophisticated proficiency. Mathematics is also integrated across other curriculum areas to ensure that students work mathematically in authentic, real-life contexts.
