Term 1 and music classes

Welcome back everyone and hello to our new families.

This year in music classes we will be singing, playing and composing up a storm.

Almost everyone has brought what they need to music but just in case here is the student requirement list for music:

Year 1-3: document wallet and 5 dividers

Year 4-6: a two-ring binder file (not lever arch please), 10 dividers and 50 plastic sheet protectors. I always say to the students at the end of the year that if their current file is in good condition they can re-use it next year, but they may need new dividers as they tend to tear.

Year 5 and 6 students will need to bring their recorders every week to lessons from now onwards. If you are a new student in Year 5 or 6 and I haven’t given you information about purchasing a recorder yet, please see me urgently so we can get you started.

Year 4 students will not be starting to learn the recorder until later in the year. Notes will go home with all the detail closer to the time.

Choirs

All our Year 3’s work together and will represent the school as our Junior Choir at the Junior Dale Fest later in the year, and will also do an item at assembly.

The Senior Choir is for any student in Year 5 or 6 who loves to sing and wants to experience the joy of singing in a choir. Students are expected to practice at home and be focused during choir sessions. It is hard for the group to have fun when choir members ‘muck around’ so please consider carefully your reasons for wanting to join the choir! If you are still participating in choir after week four of this term it is expected you will stay committed for the rest of the year. All choir students will need a deep royal blue display folder ASAP (similar colour to the school uniform blue please)

Instrumental lessons for students in the IMSS program

These have are beginning starting today and will go on from there. The IMSS lunchtime theory sessions will begin in week 4 on Tuesdays (fortnightly sessions on Mondays in the even weeks). These are for all IMSS students, but those who participate in the school band are welcome too. We will begin the School Band program late in Term Two. I have created a Connect Class to allow communication back and forth that includes all students in IMSS and the School Band.

Ukulele Club

We will start again this year with Ukulele Club running on Friday lunchtimes. A note will go home and go on Connect about joining soon.
